About Thoracic Endovascular Aneurysm Repair (TEAR)

TEAR is a minimally invasive procedure done to repair thoracic aortic aneurysms (TAAs) with reduced recovery time and improved survival rates. TAAs are usually asymptomatic, but can lead to life-threatening hemorrhage and rupture. It is divided into three categories based on the location of the problem: aortic arch, ascending aortic, and descending thoracic aneurysms. Non-infectious aortitis, inherited syndromes, atherosclerosis, and infections cause most TAAs. TEAR prevents rupture of an aneurysm and replaces it with a synthetic or thoracic stent graft through small incisions in the groin.
